First Week of Advent: Jesus said to his disciples
Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.”
Matthew 24:42

Schoolwide Learning Expectations

Graduates of St. Cecilia School are socially responsible citizens who share their abundance with those who are less fortunate.

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

In the quiet waiting of Advent, we pray to the Lord. As a school community we will take quiet prayer time each morning. The bulletin board by the office will reflect our Advent prayer. If you are in the school building at morning announcements, we ask that you join us in prayer.

In this season of sharing, I would like to thank all of the St. Cecilia families who have generously donated to our school through their employer’s matching gift program. These donations directly benefit our tuition assistance fund, technology program and also supply seed money for future projects. Please consider enrolling in your employer’s matching gift program. We appreciate your consideration and hope you can support St. Cecilia School.

The flu season is upon us. The flu can be easily spread from person to person through the coughing or sneezing of infected people. We want to keep the school open to students and functioning in a normal manner during this flu season. But, we need your help to do this.

Children should wash their hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub.
Children should not share personal items like drinks, food, or unwashed utensils.
Children should cover their nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing or cough into their elbow, arm, or sleeve. If they use a tissue, be sure they throw the tissue in the trash after using it.
Children should avoid touching their eyes, nose, or mouth to avoid spreading germs.
Do not send children to school if they are sick. Any child who exhibits fly symptoms while at school will be sent home.
Keep sick children at home for at least 48 hours after they no longer have a fever or after they are no longer vomiting. Keeping children with a fever at home will reduce the number of people who may get infected.
We will send home any child who comes back to school too soon!

Advent Blessings,

Mrs. Marian Connelly

School News

SAVE THE DATE: Mandatory Parent Meeting Grades 4-8, Wednesday, December 13th 7 p.m.

St. Cecilia School will be showing the documentary Screenagers on Wednesday, December 13 at 7:00 p.m. This showing will be mandatory for all parents of students in grades 4-8. At least one parent must attend. Screenagers is a documentary that will likely strike a chord with many parents. It explores how students interact with each other using electronic device (smartphones, computers, social media, etc.) and looks at whether parents can - or should - try to limit or control this behavior. Many experts share their thoughts on the topics the movie covers, which include tech addiction, violent video games (some clips from the games are shown), digital citizenship, and more. It's sure to prompt conversations about family communication and responsible tech use.

Thank you to everyone who came out and auditioned for Into the Woods Jr this past Saturday. We had a long day and a fun day watching students read and sing and would have loved to cast everyone who was there. For those who didn't get cast this year, we hope to see you again next year. Don't give up! For students who did get cast, please remember that there is a mandatory parent meeting in the auditorium on the evening of Wednesday, December 6th at 6:15 p.m. Please also note that our Cast Workshop, originally scheduled for Saturday, December 9th has been postponed to the new year because of scheduling conflicts. Thank you, and have a lovely holiday season! We'll hit the ground running with rehearsals in January.

Yearbook Ordering

It is time to sign up for a 2017-2018 St. Cecilia School Yearbook account! Click here to create an account.
If you already have an account, make sure to select "Log In."

With an account, you can add pictures to our folders (that our student yearbook editors can use), build your own custom picture pages, purchase a yearbook in soft cover or hardbound, and more. Once you have created or logged into your account, you can help our student editors create the yearbook by adding pictures to our community folders for 1st Quarter & Second Quarter! Some great pictures to upload would be photos from Halloween, SC sports games, or other SC events. Although we are limited by page space and will be unable to print all submitted photos in the yearbook, we rely on families and teachers to provide quality photos for use in the yearbook.
Thank you in advance for all of your help!

Contact: Ms. Mary Beth McLean at with any questions.

Advent Activities

Toys for Tots/Giving Tree Collection THIS WEEK December 4-8

Student Council will be sponsoring its annual TOYS FOR TOTS/GIVING TREE collection from December 4th through December 8th.
Grades 7 and 8 will be participating in the parish Giving Tree. Grades K- 6 will participate in our annual Toys for Tots Collection. In the past St. Cecilia students have been very generous and we know you will continue that generous spirit during this Holiday Season. Please participate in this event. You can help brighten a child’s Christmas with a gift of a toy. During this week we ask that you bring in NEW, UNWRAPPED toys. They do not have to be expensive toys, just something that will help make Christmas special for another child. Please do not bring in toys that suggest violence. The Commissioners-At-Large will be at the classroom door each morning from 8:00 - 8:10 a.m. collecting toys.
Thank you for your support and remember that Christmas spirit!

Advent Giving Tree - Pick up your gift tag today at Church

A shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him (Isaiah 11:1)

The parish is once again preparing our annual Advent Giving Tree program. This program provides gifts during the Advent season to members of participating organizations throughout the San Francisco Archdiocese. We are asking for your generosity in donating a gift to a needy member of our faith community. Please choose a gift tag, located at the front of the altar, and pray for that person throughout Advent. Return your wrapped gift, with the gift tag firmly attached, to St. Cecilia Church by December 10th.
Your thoughtfulness and generosity will surely make this Advent season just a little bit brighter for a special person. Thank you!
