SCHOOL NEWS: October 28 - November 3

Confirmation
On Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 10:30 A.M. Archbishop George Neiderauer will confirm our Confirmation candidates. This date was finalized last week. There will be a rehearsal for all candidates and sponsors on Friday, May 7 at 7:30 P.M.

Halloween
So that you can plan ahead -- all students may wear costumes to school on Friday, October 30. But, remember they must be simple so that the children can sit in their desks and can go to the restrooms. NO VIOLENT CHARACTERS; NO BLOOD AND GORE; NO CROSS DRESSING! ALL COSTUMES MUST BE MODEST (no bare midriffs) and in good taste.

No costumes are allowed which:
Show disfigurement of the human face or body
Depict boys dressed as girls or women
Imitate “heavy metal” music groups that advocate violence
All must use sensitivity towards people of other cultures and those less fortunate. No students should have “weapons” as part of their costume.

Any child who comes to school with an inappropriate costume will be sent home to change. If children choose NOT to wear costumes, they must wear their school uniform.

All parents are welcome to the parade of classes at 11:10 A.M. in the schoolyard. However, if it is raining, the parade is cancelled! Dismissal is at the regular time (3:00). In the afternoon, the eighth grade will sponsor a mini Halloween carnival for Grades K-3 in the auditorium. No money is necessary for this fun event!

PLEASE NOTE: There is NO haunted house at the rectory this year!

Halloween Candy Guess
The Student Council is sponsoring its annual Halloween Candy Guess.
When: October 19th – 23rd during morning recess The cost is 1 guess for 10¢ or 3 guesses for 25¢. There will be a grand prize winner for the closest guess throughout the whole school and a winner for the closest guess at each level (primary, intermediate, and junior high).
The winners will be announced at the Halloween Parade on October 30th.

Yearbook Pictures
Please send in pictures of any school event for the 2009-2010 School Yearbook. We would like to include as many students and events as possible in the yearbook. We especially need pictures of athletic events. Please send pictures to: Yearbook Staff— Grade 8 Room 14. We will be collecting pictures through the end of January.

Thank You, Report Card Typists!
A very big thank you to Lisa Cesari, Stephanie Lowe, Sharon MacSweeney, Mary Ann Paul, Sheryl Raines, Kori Riordan, and Patricia Wong for typing the hundreds of report cards that will be sent home this week!

Science Textbooks
A reminder to all parents that all students from Grade 1-5 and Grade 7 have access to the online science textbook. Each student has a username and a password that does not change from year to year. This year the password for Grades 1-3 is the same—“Cecilia”. You can put the username and password on the computer so you can remember it. Please encourage your child to go on to www.pearsonsuccessnet.com to sign on. Please be advised that if your child does not use the online science for a year, his/her name may be deleted.

San Francisco Middle School Science Fair
Each February, the Randall Museum plays host to a remarkable gathering of the San Francisco’s young scientific talent. All public and private middle schools (grades 6 to 8) in San Francisco are invited to participate. The goal of the Fair is to emphasize the joy and accessibility of science and participation over competition. The judging criteria are designed to reflect these goals. If there are any Grade 6-8 students who might be interested, please see Ms. Sculley for rules and guidelines.
