Sandwiches for the Needy on Wednesdays
This year we are again providing the opportunity of making a sandwich for the poor and homeless. In order to avoid Hot Lunch days, the Sandwiches for the Needy collection will be on Wednesdays. Each Wednesday, families can send an extra sandwich to school and put it on the bench outside the office. Members of the
St. Vincent de Paul Society pick up the sandwiches by 9:00 A.M. and deliver them to the
Multi-Service Center at 5th and Bryant, where 400 people are fed each day. Kindergarten PM parents, please note the early pick-up time! A “Sandwich” reminder is on the calendar for each Wednesday. Some parents/students have included a note with the sandwich that was greatly appreciated! Wednesday, October 7, is the first collection day!

Counselors
This is the twentieth year that Miss Mary McManus (K-4) and Sister Ann Gilchrist (5-8) will be serving as school counselors. The role of both is to work supportively with children to build self-esteem, to teach coping skills, and to increase social skills. While the child is the focus of their work, they are available to talk with a parent to facilitate the child’s well being and to do crisis intervention as needed. Sister Ann, as a school psychologist, can also do educational assessments for those children in any grade who may be experiencing difficulty with their academic work. Sister Ann and Miss McManus may be reached either through the classroom teacher or the school office.

Halloween
So that you can plan ahead -- all students may wear costumes to school on Friday, October 30. But, remember they must be simple so that the children can sit in their desks and can go to the restrooms. NO VIOLENT CHARACTERS; NO BLOOD AND GORE; NO CROSS DRESSING! ALL COSTUMES MUST BE MODEST (no bare midriffs) and in good taste.
No costumes are allowed which:
Show disfigurement of the human face or body
Depict boys dressed as girls or women
Imitate “heavy metal” music groups that advocate violence
All must use sensitivity towards people of other cultures and those less fortunate. No students should have “weapons” as part of their costume.
Any child who comes to school with an inappropriate costume will be sent home to change. If children choose NOT to wear costumes, they must wear their school uniform.
All parents are welcome to the parade of classes at 11:10 A.M. in the schoolyard. Dismissal is at the regular time (3:00). In the afternoon, the eighth grade will sponsor a mini Halloween carnival for Grades K-3 in the Pavilion. No money is necessary for this fun event!

Cookbook
First of all thanks to everyone for contributing such wonderful recipes to the
St. Cecilia Mothers' Club recipe collection. Many of the recipes in the collection are family traditions; some have stories with them. The book is back from the publisher and is beautiful! The collection has approximately 250 recipes. The cookbook will be sold at the upcoming Mothers' Club meeting tonight, September 30. The cookbooks make great gifts and can be used for house warming, bridal showers, and hostess gifts, and the price is right -- 3 for $30 or $15 each. Get a jump start on holiday shopping . . . After tonight, the cookbook won't be sold again until after the Festival. Thanks again and happy cooking. Bon Appetit!

Snack Bar Sign Up Dates
The Saint Cecilia Athletic Board fundraising activities help to defray many of the costs for our sports programs. We need your help. We are asking that each volleyball athlete’s parent sign up for ONE THREE HOUR SHIFT serving in our snack bar during volleyball season. A similar sign-up sheet will go out for boys’ and girls’ basketball seasons. It is really fun and serves a great cause.
