Thanks!

Special thanks also to the moms who helped serve and clean up: Eva Fong, Martha Ball, Sylvia Grogan, Jessica Del Carlo, Rose Hauer, Regina Burke, Jacki Greig Karen Politz, Stephanie Lowe, Ann Hildula, and Celine Calalang.

Congratulations to:
Lorenzo Arada, Grade 6 Room 22, for winning first place in the InvestWrite Essay contest, a component of the Stock Market Game program, for grades 6-8 in the Northern California region! He was awarded a medal, certificate and an InvestWrite trophy at an awards ceremony held last Friday.

Izabella Doricko, Grade 4 Room 20, who won an Honorable Mention in the 2010 Annual Archdiocesan Respect Life Essay Contest.

We are proud of you!

Recital Behavior
This week Ed’s, Tomoko’s, and Maya’s students will have their recitals! We know that our student musicians have practiced very hard for these performances, and so we need to ensure that we have the audience’s silent, respectful attention. The following gentle reminders are listed because they have been issues in previous years:

Well-behaved siblings are welcome at the concerts. However, the recitals are in the evening and if younger siblings cannot sit through a recital quietly at this hour, please arrange for childcare.

If a younger child starts to run around or cry, please leave the auditorium with him or her.

Cell phones should be turned off, and video games are not allowed.

Student musicians should be seated quietly on the bench and should be respectful of each performer.

Student musicians should not be in other parts of the school or running in and out of the restrooms.

Sister Marilyn will be meeting with each group of student musicians before the recitals and making general announcements to the entire student body about polite behavior.

We look forward to wonderful evenings of music that reflect the talents of our students and teachers! Thank you for your cooperation!

Tuition Assistance
On May 5 each family received information about applying for tuition assistance through the Monsignor Collins Endowment Fund. If you would like to apply for financial assistance, please email Sister Marilyn to obtain an application form: mmiller@stceciliaschool.org When submitting your completed application, you must attach: your 2009 federal tax return and a letter which indicates your reasons for applying for assistance, the ways in which you participate in the life of the school and parish, and your family’s efforts to make the payment of tuition at St. Cecilia School a priority. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer assistance from the Collins Fund if you are receiving aid from the BASIC fund. The deadline for your request is Friday, May 21. A response letter will be mailed to all applicants during the month of June.

Mandatory Student Planner Order Form
We will be introducing mandatory student planners to students in Grs. 4-8 for the 2010-2011 school year. They will be used to manage homework assignments, test dates, and project due dates. These will take the place of homework notebooks. The cost of a student planner is $6.00 each. Students will receive their planners at the beginning of the new school year. Please complete the order form and submit it with your payment to the school office marked Student Planners by Monday, May 24. Click here for the order form.

2010 Parish Festival! Playland at St. Cecilia
Save The Date - October 15, 16, 17

Relive childhood memories and create new ones at “Playland at St. Cecilia”, our annual parish festival. It’s our fundraising and social event of the year! Mark your calendars now to enjoy the “Giant” Slide, delight in an Its’ It, and maybe even get a glimpse of Laughing Sal.

We are already hard at work preparing for the festival, and there are many ways to get involved from volunteering, to sponsoring a booth, to donating silent auction items, and much more.

Of immediate need is a Silent Auction Chair and committee to help! It’s a great way to work with a core team and provide a valuable service to the school and parish. We begin soliciting donations in early summer, so a Chair with a retail background and flair for decorating would be ideal.

If you are interested in this opportunity or other ways to get involved, please contact any of the Party of Five” (aka Festival Co-Chairs):
Stephanie Pasini (415-516-2614)
Janice Calonico (415-309-8073)
Donita Murphy (415-239-5887)
Michelle Mikovich (415-999-2466)
Michelle O’Driscoll (415-584-3414)

You can also reach us via email at playlandatsc@yahoo.com

Revive your City pride, and tell your friends and family! More details to follow in the coming months.

16th Annual SC Jog-a-thon
The Athletic Board thanks everyone who participated in our 16th Annual Jog-a-thon. Special thanks goes to Romy Scott, Cindy Coyne, Misook Kim, Siobhan Whelan, Regina Burke, Carmel McDonnell, Paula Mandel, Rose Hauer, Teresa Shanley, Kathryn Ann Dougery, Pete Franceschi, Michael Huynh, Mgsr. Harriman, Sr. Marilyn and the office staff for all their help during the jog-a-thon.

Also, thanks to our many volunteers who counted laps, tied laces and encouraged our walkers and runners. We couldn’t have done it without you.

We would like to thank all the children and families for making our 16th Annual Jog-a-thon such a success.

Track Season
Wow, what a Track Season! We had another tremendous turnout with the program growing in size yet again. We are very proud of each of our runners! They practiced and competed very hard each week. Towards the end of the season, they also faced some pretty “hot” weather, but that didn’t stop them from doing GREAT!!!! Thanks also to the parent volunteers enough for helping us run every track meet whether it was the High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put, or timing the runners. Your support is very much appreciated.

Since the season is now over, we need your uniform tops back! All track team members (even those who are in the May 22 meet) please return YOUR CLEANED TOP in a small plastic bag to the school office addressed to the attention of Norma/Sue Courey. Be sure to put your name on it, so we can cross you off the list. Any questions contact Jeff Waite, Sue Courey, or Mark Courey.

CYO Track Meet
The annual CYO track meet is Saturday, May 22, at Archbishop Riordan High School from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Click here for more details. For this meet, Jeff Waite will have track tops for the participants. Jeff has volunteered to coach the SC team that day, and he is looking for a few volunteers to help assist him. You may contact him at jwai@chevron.com

ATTENTION ALL GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PLAYERS
Congratulations on a great season. As your season winds down, please return your CLEANED basektball uniforms in a bag with your name on it and turn it in to the office.
