Faculty Update

We give thanks to God as a school community for Mrs. Marie Murphy (Gr. 8 Rm. 15) who will retire at the end of this school year. Mrs. Murphy has been a part of our St. Cecilia School family since 1988 when her oldest son started kindergarten. In 1994 Mrs. Murphy was hired to teach junior high and has been a wonderful asset to our school! She has been a nurturing teacher who has provided a strong academic program. We are grateful for the many ways that she shared her gifts and taught our junior high students by her word and example. We will miss her!

I am happy to announce that Mrs. Beth Fergus, will replace Mrs. Murphy as an eighth grade teacher. Mrs. Fergus previously taught eighth grade at St. Emydius, replaced Mrs. Ortega ( fifth grade) last year from November through June, has substituted in many grades this year, and is the mother of Erin, Pat, and Sean. Mrs. Fergus joins the ranks of thirteen other faculty/staff members who are graduates of St. Cecilia School!

Lenten Contribution

During Lent our students contributed $8,524.95 to the Sisters of the Holy Names for the Little Flower Primary School in Kolonyama, Lesotho. The care of one child at Little Flower Primary School for one year is $90! How wonderful that the generous families and students of St. Cecilia School are supporting 95 students for one year!! In the names of the Sisters who minister to the children of this school, we thank you for your generosity!

Away Notice

Sister Marilyn has been invited to join a group visiting Italy from April 14-April 25. In her absence our vice-principals, Miss Kays (Gr. 8 Rm. 14) and Mrs. Connelly (Gr. 6 Rm. 22) will be in charge.

"Aladdin"

We are looking forward to another great Drama Club production on April 18 (7:00 P.M.), April 19 (7:00 P.M.), and April 20 (2:00 P.M.). Our director, Katy Porter, has prepared a fabulous production with 48 students from Grades 4-8. Click here to view ticket purchase form.

New Standing Committee for the Mothers’ Club Proposed Addition to By-Laws

History: Last year, the Mothers’ Club began offering pre-packaged school supplies for purchase by the families of St. Cecilia and will do so again this year. This work was generated under the School Sales Committee and was very successful. The pre-packaged supplies serve as a modest fundraiser for the Mothers’ Club and as a service to the families. At their last meeting, the Board approved adding a new Standing Committee for the school supplies coordination.

Under Article IX of the Mothers’ Club By-laws, "School Supplies" would be added to the list of committees.

Under the Standing Rules, which describe the functions of committees, the following would be added:

"The School Supplies Committee is responsible for the coordination of the pre-packaged school supplies available to students on Registration Day. She will coordinate supply lists with the faculty and the ordering process with the families."

A vote by the general membership to add the School Supplies Standing Committee to the By-Laws will be taken at the April 16th Mothers’ Club meeting.

If you have any questions or concerns about this proposal, please call Laura Escobar, Mothers’ Club President, at 415-826-2426 or e-mail laurannescobar@aol.com.
