Music Department

The Saint Cecilia School Music Department has been in existence since the founding of the school in 1930 and is unique among San Francisco Catholic schools.

Music instruction is offered for individual and group lessons in piano, strings, woodwinds and guitar. Ensemble groups are also provided for strings, guitar and woodwinds. Some piano students play duets and duos with their teachers and with other piano students at their lessons and in performance and also receive ensemble experience when accompanying soloists.

Saint Cecilia School provides adequate space for music lessons and performances. There are five music rooms in the convent used for piano lesson and individual violin and guitar lessons. In addition, two rooms in the lower church are used for piano lessons, woodwind lessons, and ensemble work. The auditorium accommodates the largest ensemble groups and performances. The elevated stage and lighting system provide an ideal setting for recitals.

Many music graduates continue music studies in high school and college, with some performing in high school and college bands and orchestra and some receiving college music scholarships. The Saint Cecilia Music Department has existed for 72 years because of the dedication of the music teachers and the cooperation and support of the administration and classroom teachers.

Arrangements for music lessons are made directly by the parents with the Music Department. For further information on music lessons please contact the Music Department Director, Mrs. Bonnie Knight at 681-8788.
